‘O.P.P.’ Pinot Gris, Maison Noir, Willamette Valley, OR

Andre Hueston Mack, the Founder of Maison Noir, is a force to be reckoned with in the wine community. Initially working in finance, Mack found a passion for wine while working in Texas—where he eventually began a budding career as a young sommelier in San Antonio. Quickly, Mack won ‘Best Young Sommelier’ before accepting a position at the famed French Laundry working for Thomas Keller in Yountville, California. His time there brought the opportunity to relocate to Manhattan at Keller’s recently opened three Michelin star restaurant, Per Se, to work as their Wine Director. In this role, Mack worked to create an inclusive environment within the wine community which led him to found Maison Noir—his exceptional foray into winemaking in Willamette Valley, Oregon. His ‘O.P.P.’ (Other People’s Pinot) is a great example of Pinot Gris from the Pacific Northwest. Its cherry and wood-spiced notes make for an opulent, elegant bottle to make your date night sweet and sensual.

Syrah, Paritua, Hawke’s Bay, NZ

Exceptionally limited and a rare find in the states, this is a special wine from the North Island of Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. This is a wine fan’s gold treasure, as Hawke’s Bay is producing some of the most exciting Bordeaux blends and Syrah in the world! Better yet, Paritua is one of the country’s finest producers. Currently serving the 2015 vintage, it is a rare experience to taste developing wines from the rocky hillsides of New Zealand, where the country’s red wines are not to be overlooked. As you’re pouring this bottle, remind your partner of all of the rare things you appreciate about them.

‘Le Beaujolais’, Marcel Lapierre, Burgundy, FR

Beaujolais is usually sipped during the holidays and at large gatherings. Marcel Lapierre is an enigma within the region and affectionately dubbed one of the “Gang of Four,” known as four producers who have championed an approach to a more holistic style of winemaking. Produced with little intervention, this bottle is a pure showcase of terroir and grape! If you’re looking for a special night with friends, this is the bottle to pop open!

‘Grishaw Vineyard’ Gruner Veltliner, Mari Vineyards, Old Mission Peninsula, MI

Mari Vineyards is one of the most exciting wineries in Michigan—pushing boundaries through their approach to site-driven wines meant to thrive in our climate. As Michigan continues to explore opportunities with Austrian, Alsatian and German grape varieties such as Riesling, Gruner Veltliner, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Gewurztraminer, our mitten-based wine industry will continue to thrive. If you’re seeking a slow romance kind of night, turn on some Steve Winwood, grab a bottle of this Gruner Veltliner and sip it with a charcuterie board next to a warm fire.

Living Roots Wines’ Montepulciano, Limestone Coast, AU

Owned by a husband-wife duo, our friends at Living Roots are doing exceptional work! Colleen and Sebastian Hardy operate dual wineries in the Finger Lakes, New York and Adelaide, South Australia. Both projects offer unique insight into the future of both regions. Living Roots’ approach to traditional Italian varietals presented in a modern sense makes for an intimate night spent with someone who shares your passions in life.
